The Sanctuary

Why does “darkness” or “Night” depict a tone of sin and turning towards the devil’s evil persuasions. Growing in my spirituality has shown me that going into the darkness is the very thing that brings clarity. Reframing darkness and night as the womb of processing emotions, transforming pain into creativity, and a familiar sense of connection to other worlds that we can’t see; but only feel. The darkness is where it’s quiet enough to hear your own voice. Religious dogma doesn’t want you to explore the darkness within because it is your right of passage to tame the illusion of any devil outside of you. Darkness is where you stop obeying. It’s where you discover the “devils” were never masters only illusions you gave your power to.

If you do nothing, truly nothing, God cannot help but come into you   - Meister Eckhart

The Womb of the night represents God speaking to you in stillness, the fertile soil of silence, coherence, and resonance to the divine that lives within you.

This means that we must leave the illusion of taking ourselves to be something, some thing , an object that exists in time. Impermanence shines the presence of the unborn, unmade, uncreated. This is clear light unimpeded by the opacity of all things with which we identified. In the midst of the heavy, the light is revealed. – The Gospel of Mary Magdalene

The Sanctuary represents where the Holy trinity resides ( in you). God the Father the Son and the Holy spirit. the Father is the home, the Son is the path, and the Spirit is the pulse that guides you as you walk it. Realizing that everything you need to know is already within you. What you need to know appears at the perfect time when you stay rooted in the Sanctuary during your travels with the darkness as it finds balance with the light.

In the Sanctuary, I’ve come to understand the night as a womb—not a punishment. Even scripture hints at this in reversal: in Psalm 139:11–12“Surely the darkness will cover me,” still “the darkness is not dark” to the Divine “the night is bright as the day.” So maybe the night was never proof of your sin; maybe it’s the place where you’re finally safe enough to be unfinished, unpolished, and safe in this vast world of becoming to take on your unique patina.

The dark will be your home tonight

The night will give you a horizon further than you can see

You must learn one thing

The World was meant to be free in

Give up all the other worlds

Except the one to which you belong.

-David Whyte
